You've probably heard the song "What Does the Fox Say?" In our house, in honor of daddy, we've been playing a parody of it called "What Does a Farmer Say?" We just can't get enough of how Adam swings his little arms back and forth from the shoulders and growls, "Work, work, work, work, work-work-work-work." We love it.
But last week at the checkout in Wal-Mart, my little soloist burst into his own version from his ride-along seat in the cart. "What does a Mommy say?" he sang teasingly, and with volume. "No, no, no, no, no-no-no-no."
As an English teacher, I had to appreciate the cleverness of his impromptu parody. I laughed with appreciation. It encouraged him to add the subsequent verses of "Brush Your Teeth" and "Put On Your Shoes."
